Tariff Tip:Emollin Aerosol Spray
Q: I have a prescription for Emollin 150ml spray, the patient has had it before on prescription without an issue but now my PMR is saying it is disallowed, I cannot see why?
A: This is one of those strange items in the Drug Tariff that can confuse us. Emollin Aerosol Spray is listed in the dictionary of medicines and devices (dm+d) with the legal category of ‘Not Applicable’ which usually means it is classed as an appliance with a CE mark on it ,and as such can only be prescribed if it is listed in the Drug Tariff. In this case the 150ml is not listed and the 240ml is listed, therefore the 240ml is the one that is allowed and the prescription would have to be changed to this
