Tariff Tip: K-Y Jelly pack sizes
Q. I have a prescription for ‘K-Y Jelly 82g’ - can I dispense it?
A. No, this item is not allowed on an NHS prescription.
There have been changes to the K-Y Jelly range with the deletion of the 82g from the May Tariff 2019
K-Y Jelly is classified as a medical device and so the product and pack size must be listed in the Drug Tariff in order to be dispensed.
The range is divided into sterile and non–sterile products.
Two pack sizes of 50g and 75g are available. These products are described as non-sterile and are not listed in the Drug Tariff. These two products therefore cannot be prescribed.
The traditional sterile pack size of 82g is NO longer listed in the Drug Tariff.
This means that NO available pack size of K-Y jelly isallowed on NHS prescription as of May 2019, other lubricant gels are allowed such as those listed below (from July 2021 Drug Tariff) :
