Risk Assessment Guidance
What are they?
Pharmacy risk assessments are essential for identifying, evaluating, and managing potential risks within a pharmacy. Risk assessments should be carried out for any new process, new equipment, new pharmacy service or if an individual’s circumstances change, I.e. Pregnancy.
Why are they important?
There are several reasons why risk assessments are important:
- To ensure the safety and effectiveness of the pharmacy operations, protecting both staff and patients. They will help identify any associated risks and how these risks can be reduced.
- Risk assessments will also improve operational efficiency. By understanding potential issues, pharmacies will be able to streamline their processes, reduce waste and improve the overall workflow.
- Compliance with regulatory bodies will often require risk assessments to ensure the pharmacy meets legal and professional requirements.
- To monitor and review practice. Some risk assessments may require continual reviews such as annual fire risk assessments. This ensures the risk mitigation are still effective or require adaption to any changes in the pharmacy.
