Q. I have a brand written prescription for Nasosal (sodium chloride 0.9%) nasal drops 10ml, will I get paid for supplying the brand?
A. No, you would not be reimbursed for supplying Nasosal drops on an NHS prescription.
Sodium chloride 0.9% nasal drops are classed as an appliance and consequently listed in part IXA (appliances section) of the England and Wales tariff. Part IXA specifies only certain brands of sodium chloride 0.9% nasal drops that are permitted to be supplied against NHS prescriptions.
This prescription requests a specific brand of sodium chloride 0.9% nasal drop, if the prescribed brand is not listed in Part IXA then the item is not allowed on NHS prescription.
For your reference the table below gives the reimbursement price of each branded product listed in the England/ Wales and Northern Ireland drug tariffs: The Scottish tariff lists saline drops generically which means any brand could be supplied and would be reimbursed at the set price.
