Brief description of problem:

Abbott is initiating a proactive, voluntary recall of some powder formulas manufactured in Sturgis, Michigan in the United States. Abbott is voluntarily recalling these products after four consumer complaints related to Cronobacter sakazakii or Salmonella Newport in infants who had consumed powder infant formula manufactured in this facility. No distributed product has tested positive for the presence of either of these bacteria, and Abbott conducts extensive quality checks on each completed batch of infant formula, including microbiological analysis prior to release. All finished products are tested for Cronobacter sakazakii, Salmonella Newport and other pathogens and they must test negative before any product is released. While Abbott's testing of finished product detected no pathogens, they are taking action by recalling the powder formula manufactured in this facility with an expiration of April 1st 2022, or later.

Advice to consumers:

If you have purchased or been prescribed any of the above product batches, do not feed it to your baby and return to the place of purchase or dispensing. If you have additional questions, please contact Abbott on 01795 580303.

Advice to Healthcare Professionals:

Stop supplying the above batches immediately. Quarantine all remaining stock and any patient returns and return it to your supplier using your supplier’s approved process.
