Three new Serious Shortage Protocols issued
In response to significant ongoing disruption to the supply of three medicines, the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has issued new Serious Shortage Protocols (SSPs).
These SSPs will allow pharmacies to supply a different formulation of Nifedipine XL tablets and Fixapost® unit dose eye drops:
- SSP084 for Adipine® XL 30mg MR tablets allows other Nifedipine XL 30mg preparations to be supplied
- SSP085 for Adipine® XL 60mg MR tablets allows other Nifedipine XL 60mg or 30mg preparations to be supplied against prescriptions.
- SSP086 for Fixapost® eye drops 0.2ml unit dose preservative free allows for Vizilatan Duo® preservative free eye drops
Each SSP will be valid from Friday 19th December 2025 to Friday 6th February 2026
