Sales and prescription supply of medicines for animal use SOP v8.0

The purpose of this SOP is

<ul>
	<li>To ensure that dispensed items are handed out promptly.</li>
	<li>To ensure that the correct dispensed items are handed to the correct person.</li>
	<li>To ensure that the correct charges are collected.</li>
	<li>To ensure that appropriate and sufficient verbal and written information is given to enable the patient to use the product effectively eg drugs with a narrow therapeutic index, methotrexate, lithium, warfarin and other anticoagulants.</li>
	<li>To ensure that patient confidentiality and safety is maintained.</li>
	<li>To promote services that support patients to manage their own medicines eg MUR, NMS, DMR or CMS.</li>
</ul>

Handing out prescriptions SOP v9.0

Extemporaneous dispensing SOP v5.0

Emergency supply of prescription only medicines SOP v9.0

Disposal of unwanted medicines SOP v8.0

Dispensing private prescriptions SOP v6.0

This procedure applies to all NHS and private prescriptions received in the pharmacy for all formulations of analgesics, including generics and effervescent products, which may contain any amounts of codeine or dihydrocodeine in them

Dispensing and checking procedures for codeine and dihydrocodeine SOP v9.0 

This procedure applies to all NHS and private prescriptions received in the pharmacy when lithium therapy is prescribed, to ensure a safe and efficient service when dispensing, checking, handing out and providing advice to patients taking lithium therapy.

This procedure covers the authorised delivery of prescription medicines to:

	<li>Housebound</li>
	<li>Disabled</li>
	<li>Elderly patients</li>
</ul>
