SSP086 Fixapost® eye drops 0.2ml unit dose preservative free

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) have issued a Serious Shortage Protocol (SSP) for Latanoprost 50micrograms/ml / Timolol 5mg/ml (Fixapost®) eye drops 0.2ml unit dose preservative free in response to a significant ongoing supply disruption.

The SSP will enable community pharmacies in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland to supply patients with a different formulation as per the document below.

It allows 1 x 2.5ml bottle of Latanoprost 50micrograms/ml / Timolol 5mg/ml (Vizilatan Duo®) preservative free eye drops to be supplied against prescriptions for every 1 x 30 pack of Latanoprost 50micrograms/ml / Timolol 5mg/ml (Fixapost®) eye drops 0.2ml unit dose preservative free.

The pharmacist must exercise their professional judgement to ensure the alternative product is suitable for the patient. Ensure that the patient is counselled on the correct use of the dropper device, the 4-week in-use shelf life and reassured that the product is preservative free.

SSP086 for Fixapost® eye drops 0.2ml unit dose preservative free will be in operation from Friday 19th December 2025 to Friday 6th February 2026.

Please note that the SSP may be amended or revoked at any time, so contractors must ensure that the SSP is still valid before each supply.
